The focus for the week is my daughter's quilts. As her wedding quilt isn't quite ready I offered her this Karla Alexander quilt. The stack, slice, shuffle then sew concept is great for breaking out of the matchy matchy formula for fabrics and colour that I began quilting with. It also is super for keeping the WOW factor up as the blocks begin to go up on the design wall. I am MQing it and then I need to decide on a colour for the binding.
I did take about 5 different pictures. It is a dreary day, the blocks look blurry to me. But it is pretty vibrant with limes, periwinkles, and some teals. hmm, I wonder if the colour should be a light, a medium or a dark???
Nom Nom Nom I love that quilt, Ellen, it's fab.
ReplyDeleteSo, how in the world do I cut fabric off the bolt and have been relatively straight? All my large pieces jog to the right and I lose about 4 inches on either side of the piece when I square them up!
Yes the blocks are little blurry but I love that quilt. I have not done a stack and slice quilt. I really like the randomness of that quilt. The colors are very springlike.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous quilt! Your daughter is a lucky lady!
ReplyDeleteI would suggest a dark(er) choice for binding - maybe that dark teal fabric I see toward the centre of your quilt, diagonal from the rust block. A darker colour would frame the quilt nicely, I think.
Such a lucky girl to receive one of your beautiful quilts. That was merely a tease of an apron...more pictures please. :o)
