When work is play

This week's colour palette challenge.

First let me back up.  This is our ninth day with no sun.  Kinda tough on us as we are 'Sunny Manitoba'.  :O   I have also been doing a few darker palettes the last two weeks so it was time to change things up.  But first...

When my gal comes we do some work.  We start with a drawing warm up and I decided to do mine with a dip pen because I want to incorporate the ink into my art more frequently.  Gee, I wonder where one gets blotter paper???   It is all coming back to me.  lol  Then we are to do a self portrait every time.  Joshua took this photo of me on our trip.  My eyes are kinda closed and it looks like it could be doable.  In fact, I have found a good reason to be thankful that I don't have lips.  ;^)   Anyhoo, it can only get better. :)  Speaking of eyes closed,  this class is all about the blind leading the blind.  And actually we kinda learn from each other!  :)

Then keeping with dry we worked on our own version of the grand kiddies smash books.  I am finally going to document the trip I took to NYC back in 2013.  It was actually work related and was a 5 day conference.  I have a drawer full of stuff and I don't remember if I chose the orange book specifically but purple and orange are the theme colours.  I was so tickled when the page I worked on fitted so nicely alongside the orange trim on the cardboard starter page.   I'm reading about synchronicity in the Artist's Way and the big purple paint chip was right handy!

After lunch we tackled the wet stuff and the challenge.  I was still into scrap booking paper and  chose a clean page.

We kinda felt like these colours were tropical.  I matched papers while my partner mixed up custom colours.  Nice, huh!   I picked a travel paper for the brown rather than go for the beach scene.

I'm starting to feel somewhat comfortable with the whole arting process.

No multiples this time but I did use up gel medium and paint on some tags and an envelope.   Nothing too taxing just a fun playtime.  A little away time if you like!  A gal can't be working ALL the time.

Finishing the week

Friday was a great day but not a pretty day.  The Rooster was home and got us moving in spite of weather forecasts and chilly winds.  We got a lot of things put away and the flowerbeds are looking more ready for the approaching snow.  We came in for supper just before the drizzle began.

I had planned on working on my book/card and a scrapbook page.  My arms and hands were a bit sore and I was looking for a book to read and a bed to stretch out in but I spent a few minutes on the scrapbook page. I don't know what these little albums are called.  Even though the size, 6X8, is a bit challenging, they will work for my kids. I did a general plan and fixed them in place first thing this morning.  I need to work on lettering. ;)

For Creativity 101 I discovered how valuable cereal boxes that are gessoed can be!

I had a number of interruptions during the week but I am still pleased with all that I did get to work on. Now to finish that chicken coop and get the replacement hens all moved over and ready for winter!  They will luv the access to the great outdoors and the nest boxes.  Then I can finish off the week!

tuting

I am trying not to over heat as we experience a heat wave.  whoo!   I need to make up some samples with little tutorials for DD#1 and get these all into a 12 x 12 box and sent away!  The box is going to be a challenge in itself.

I started plain and simple. This youngster is now five and trying to get the front wheel of his two wheeler up off the ground like the big boys!  :O  Posting these is great.   hmmm?  I may need to find some upward motion to the space to the left of the bicycle.  I could make a u-turn and stamp some arrows in front of the bicycle!

Another painted white page (gelatos) with design decisions based on an oops! lol  The yellow dots are over kill but are down for good . ;)

I decided not to guild the lily on this one.  The black page was a black and white pad I spontaneously grabbed.  It is sure gonna be useful!

The gal in green was specifically to demo buttons.  The lettering should be more prominent so I also explain the not so good and how it can be improved. This DD is a perfectionist so I want her comfortable with 'good enough' as she learns.  I also forgot to 'thread'  the button holes!  Sorry for the blur.  I am working deadlines.  :(

Lots could make this better but I was limited to the size of her pages, the size of the photo and the pertinent area of the map I adhered with gel medium to the page.  I also believe that not every page should be a star as memories have the precedence.

I do have a few more great ideas to try and then I need to make the kits and find that box.

I am very anxious to pick up where I 'leaved' off!   The stencils are cut and next will be the foam stamps. :)
