Bonus post- Note to self!
The fall weather has continued to hold and we have been quite busy. The laundry is barely drying but it isn't too bad working outside.
We have postponed doing the last of the chickens. The rooster and his flock are due to be moved to their winter quarters and are taking advantage of our busyness to invade the yard. I hope most of my plants are dormant and that they don't eat too many of my volunteer seeds. :(
The turkeys need a bit more time but if they don't stay off my front step it is going to be 'ready or not'!!!
We have been working away on getting the shed back together. It is now resting on the ground and the two sections are tied together. phew
Stuff is already finding its way inside and the Rooster has us keeping a tidy site in case the weather changes.
The next urgency is to get the roof up and on. The front door may not make it but we can fix up a temporary solution. Next year will be the year of the doors. :)
Now before we married the Rooster said that one day he would build me a house. As we have been working together I have been recalling that promise. Gee, wouldn't it be fun to build a new coop for us ol' birds!!! He is looking slightly horrified. As an incentive I promised him an air hammer. Isn't that exciting??? He said it would be more exciting if it came with an operator. I raised my eyebrows but he nixed that pretty quick. lol Perhaps I have been overly estimating my worth as his carpenter's helper!!! ;^) Note to self- buy myself a proper apron!!!

Growing
A typical fall morning and a fine time for a walk.
We began our day with a quick cuddle with the friendliest cat.
They were hoping for a free ride but they are getting heavier with every step.
We checked out Charlotte and the calves. Only Charlotte came to have her ears scratched.
Sweet Pea, the Border Collie, was all for checking out the sheep but Manny, our Great Pyrenees cross, had wandered off on his own guard business down the field road.
Puhleeeese! Lets go chase sheep, forget that other dog!
He is almost out of sight but I got a glimpse of these little people's view of the world. This was a great adventure to follow what appeared to be a large distance. Josh got a surprised look when we reached the end of the bush as he recognized the railway crossing at the corner of our property.
Then began the science lesson where we examined seeds from oats, millet, timothy, Canada thistle and something I don't know the name of. lol
Sweet Pea beat us home and Eliana was a close second shouting, "I did it!". :)
Manny showed up in his own good time. He came home by his own back road which leads by and even circles around our final destination- the chicken coop. The grand kiddies were off investigating his road; calling all the while to make sure they could hear me. I do believe they are growing up. :O
Now my camera decided the aroma from the chicken coop cleaning was intolerable and ceased to function but I remembered my new tablet. It has a camera. I managed to get it to take pictures of Sweet Pea and the grand kiddies 'watching' the chickens while I levered chicken debris out the door and into the wheelbarrow.
Then we had lunch and a nice rest. I introduced the budding artists to my gelli plate. Yes, they like!
While they played I tried to use the 'puter to figure out how to transfer my pictures from a balky camera and a tablet. I downloaded something that had my virus protector freaking out and scanning and pitching things into a chest/vault. ??? Something deep anyway. While this was happening I poked at my camera and managed to get my pictures off it. I have been having trouble with the on/off button and I guess it is feeling over worked! Part two of the chicken coop cleaning may or may not happen tomorrow depending on my getting wi-fi access at the library to send my pictures to the home computer. I should be able to download straight to the computer but I need to study on that some more without downloading gremlins. ha! I guess I am not too old to hopefully learn these techy things.
Our walk about the yard made me realize that to keep from growing old, I must not forget to see the world through the eyes of a child. ;)

Ducks in a row
A current goal is yard beautification. Most farmers have a stash and my Rooster is no exception. But it is time to purge the stash as his plans to restore some old tractors has hit the time crunch. So many hobbies and so little time. I understand. I have that problem myself. So a scrap dealer has been summoned. But before he takes things away we had to get some parts. He always comments on my selection of rulers. Wow, you should see all the wrenches and sockets he has!!! And it takes very good scrubbing before I can handle things in my stash! LOL
I ran into a young gal who is working with an upholsterer. This has made me think about my two auction sale chairs. What should I be considering for fabric??? So I flapped my samples out for viewing. I luv blogging and putting it out there. I now see that the paint sample (bottom left) for the sitting room is way too light! And a wall paper border I got a number of years ago seems to have the colours I'm considering. I'm thinking a medium blue green.
I'm also thinking this is my last day to help at the thrift shop and then I'll be setting up the playroom for some major machine quilting. Deadlines! What if I actually didn't wait till the last moment??? Here ducky, ducky!

Recovering
My dolls are still prone and in recovery, I need to find glue for the teapot, the toys are back in the box, the fort building supplies recovered, the laundry is processing, the dust bunnies are settling, the chickens should begin laying again soon, and it is Q U I E T. shhhh I shall be saying the alphabet backwards before I agree to 4 kids for 3 days again anytime soon. whoa!

We did manage to use up some of the hours by designing the next baby quilt. I'm not sure about the purple nor the present arrangement.

I sent my farmer out to the field with visions of my studio shed in his head. I mean what else would he want to think about as he goes round and round. I found a library book with Pottery Barn Work Spaces. If anyone can make a silk purse out of my sow's ear...

I luv this picture of my grandson running thru their corn patch. I doubt we'd see him now as the corn is high and ready. num But it did jolt me to the realization that summer is on the downward slide. I do hope the weather has settled and we'll have a busy, productive fall.
I know it'll be pedal to the medal to get everything done before green, or yellow is no longer the predominant colour and a white blanket covers a ground that will be resting and recovering from another year of production.

Pick yourself up...
dust yourself off and start all over again. Well, maybe wring yourself out! 8^)
The back half of the barn is for livestock. The front half is for the summer kitchen and the miscellaneous stuff like feed. The top no longer stores hay but is one big storage area.

We had gotten the baseboards to finish off the sunshine room when we got the parts for the well. Josh's Dad cut them for us. We used 2 different kinds to get what we needed. They are ready for painting and nailing into place. I'm glad I never took out anymore baseboards. They were old 8 inch fir on plaster walls. They splinter and are kinda expensive to replace. Live and learn!
Now Josh and I need to have a meeting of the minds to see what we want to do while the Grand Farmer is off at work. It is back in the barn for us tonight. I wonder if he'd like to put pink patches together?
We are back in water, in the house and out! Goodness, it doesn't matter anymore, it just runs off as the ground is SO saturated.
Saturday my farmer and I spent the day in our big barn. Wonderfully satisfying. I am more the sort, shove it over and shovel it out kind of gal. Fine tuning is not my strong suit so I really like making huge big changes in messy situations rather than puttering with something that hardly shows any effort! We didn't get done but my dearie is so impressed he thinks we should keep going and tackle the other barn/shop. He asked what I think we should do with all his auction find sales of exercise equipment we'd planned for a home gym. Well, we were right pooped! It took us a good part of Sunday to recover. So the 'gym' will be not be happening. We are too busy doing the real thing to designate special times for rotating on a stationary bike! LOL
