No Comparison!

I do enjoy blogging and was counting on at least keeping up using my new tablet.  I suspect it was mostly operator error.  I could not get anywhere but frustrated so I put it away and enjoyed my time in NYC and hoped I could catch up when I got home.  Anybody figured out a replacement for Google Reader yet???  :O

We hit the city Sunday afternoon.  Threw our luggage in the lobby and sped away to catch the game at Yankee Stadium for the top of the third inning.  I felt slightly sad that my Dad would have changed seats with me in a heartbeat!  I doubt he was a Yankee fan but his own kids and the grand kids all got base ball equipment and one on one coaching in our backyard games.  Luved it.  I jokingly said to my seat mateon the right, a local fan, that any balls and they were his.  I would be ducking. Well, no sooner said than ...

So I started my week in New York with a red face from squinting in the sun and trying to see incoming fly balls!

Our room was on the 41st floor and off to the north was Central Park!

I was in New York for a four day conference that would hopefully help me in my work with girls who need a bit of help to take  their place in the world.  I took all the sessions that spoke about art and creativity.  They mostly centred on the creative arts of drama but I am such a newbie that I learned lots in whatever the session was about.  People helping people!  Something for everyone!  We are communities, both large and small.  Even blogging is a community. :)  Don't ya just luv all the designs that all around us, even under our feet!

We took a quick lunch in a cafe and arrived just before the noon hour rush. Lots of people up on the sidewalks soon descended for tasty food.  Such variety!

After the last session on Monday afternoon we were off  and running!  Somebody had an app on their phone so...

We got to the top of Rockefeller Center. Rain was in the weeky forecast so I suspect that was why it was fairly crowded.

There is that park again! The trees were not fully leafed out.

Go! Go! Go!

Then we maneuvered down through the subway. I was surprised by the air turbulence as the trains whooshed into position.

Supper was a quick but  fresh, hot, salty, pretzel!   Definitely a highlight!

Back up to the viewing area at the Empire State Building.  pant, pant

The deco art style was very prevalent.  The floors were amazingly shiny and classy!

If you want great photos I suppose a post card  captures it.  I was for something a bit more personal so here is an "excuse me, can I shoot under your armpit, please!".

Tulips, lions and imposing stonework. Blurry, I know.  But it captures the sense of being in a faerie world. !!!   We walked past the public library which I went back to twice more!  ;)  I'll have better ones for the return.

A nip through Times Square.   Not sure why it is called a square but it is sure a busy place.

Then a  collapse back in the room, a review and a plan for tomorrow!

I am a flat lander.  I can see forever on a clear day!  I am not just rural but really far down on the farm.  What a surprise to find that  I   LUVED   NYC.  ???  Go figure.  I'd be back in a heart beat!  C'mon    Rooster.   Let's fly this coop!

Welcome home and I am thrilled you had a busy and fun time. I finally got to go in 2005 for the first time and I was blown away by it all. I have been back and love every bit of it. The art deco and the Chrysler building is my very favorite. Rest is in order now my friend...

What was your reaction to the tall buildings? The first time I went...coming from the back end of nowhere...I was a bit overwhelmed and felt like they were falling on me. A very strange sensation.

I'm afraid of heights but still managed the Empire State Building, many years ago though. I loved the city too. I'm a quiet outdoorsy person living in a very small city but I'd love to visit NYC again. It's so full of life!

Sounds like you had a great time! I remember the Empire State Building from my summer there (1969)...thanks for the memories. :-)

I remember the first time I went to NYC. I ended up staying for five days. I sure didn't plan it that way, but I mostly parked my car and walked the entire island of Manhattan. I loved the city. It was fun, it was shiny, it was something I will never forget. However, it is a place to visit, never to live. At least not for me.

The first time I went, was in the late 80s. Amid my walks to places like the World Trade Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Central Park, Chinatown, and the seaport, I saw people living in doorways, drunk and urinating on themselves.

The second time the city was much, much cleaner. The third time was the cleanest of all. I hope it is still that way.

Glad you have a fond memory and I look forward to more fun photos, soon.
