My happy place

It is my playroom/sewing room/art studio.  Lots of times it is creating things that makes me happy but I am seriously wondering if organizing is my real happy place.  :(

I needed to find a couple of sheets of coloured paper.  I have coloured card stock, patterned scrapbook paper, gelli plate mono prints, old book pages, music sheets, napkins, etc.  OYE!  I am in serious trouble.  I started to sort into colours.  Just like fabric, some doesn't slot into categories easily.  Then I began to dream about a storage rack/system.  Ahem!  I don't have a week nor do I have extra funds at the moment.  I have a couple of hours and that's iffy.  So I got creative.  I did a quick shuffle with the bead paraphernalia and repositioned the shelf to hold all those manila folders I had saved.  I designated similar pages into folders and I just may not even need to buy anything! Phew!

The space isn't completed as the tub of mono prints is still in its tub but I had to switch happy places.  lol
I also have to deal with all the small stuff.  But I found card stock that I just knew I hadn't used up.  Yay! I also have emptied 2 shallow drawers that I have big plans for.  Again, I need to hold that happy thought and get back to the project at hand.

First set of pages is coming together.  hmmm, hum, hum.  Nothing glued but a good start.

I thought I was humming along until I put the flap down. :(

These flaps are complicating things, alright!  ;)

hmm, this might even work out better.  I will loose the yellow bow and...

put a nice one on the flap!    I can move the centre sentiment to the side and show case the bling. :)

I have three more sets of pages and only one more flap.   hmmmmmmmm   I hope I can stay happy!

the Point of this post

A little regrouping here as we set the pointer for this Monday and a look at the second quarter of 2013.  Spring has not arrived.  We may not even get a spring this year.  But it is time to quit shivering and shoveling and get started with this next season whatever it looks like!!!  The second quarter for me comprises April, May and June.

The theme for Spring is paper!

The Whole House Purge will be to reduce the stacks of paper that seem to accumulate.  First up is the 'puter drawers.  Then I shall grit my teeth, glare fiercely and tackle my bedside filing system (or lack there of) and finally the playroom.

The decorating will be to Paint.  I want to finish the furniture in the north rooms and accessorize.  Bathroom should be a quick job for May.  The Rooster hopes to be outside on the fence and well into the barn by the end of spring so my workroom fits nicely into June.  The paper for theses projects is mainly protective paper on the floors!  lol

This quarter's books focus on photography and PhotoShop Elements.  I want to capture better images on paper and then manipulate them for collage papers.  The three books are:

Photography & the art of seeing-  Freeman Patterson
Digital Essentials-  Gloria Hanson
Digital Expressions-  Susan Tuttle

The classes projects come and go.  I shall finish Printing the Journal in time to start Colour Love 101The Getting Started basics class covers  Deli Paper in April;  Lettering in May; and June is Watercolours. I will have several kinds of papers on the go!  ;^)

Then there are The Projects.  The Finish A Long was hugely motivating and I hope to pick up where I left off and continue with more in this next quarter. I also want to do a Die Cut Scrap a long that will help me learn to use my die cutter and process a few scraps at the same time.  This round of paper will be to check off items!!!

The directional pointer is set and the projects are in the planning stages.  Let the process begin!  8^)

wow, what if...

Yesterday I was trying all my primary and secondary colours on plain sketchpad paper.  I wanted a reference for exact hues when I wanted to use say, red, which can be a blue red (cool) or an orange red (warm). When I got all my colours on the papers I had a what if moment!  What if I put the colours on cloth?   Then I remembered that I had bought dyes and paints for fabrics.

Dying fabric is not the same as painting fabric.  The colours adhere differently.  I wanted to see what painting would show as I have dye samples already.  I have a couple of dye posts under my To Dye For page.

So I unearthed my Pebo Setacolours and a few odd jars of fabric paint.  I did try a few acrylic paints meant for paper.  I wish I had also got white in Setacolour as it would be very useful to have the lighter, clearer options.

Here is what I discovered.

My favorite colour.  I did try to get orange by mixing the 2 different reds with yellow.

Red has more variations that I'd have thought possible!

Purple is tricky.  The light area on the fabric is watered down lots. I tried mixing blue and red watercolours to get a violet. I need to spend some time mixing colours because when I did get the setacolours it was with the idea of mixing other options. But it was recommended that purple be specifically bought.  I can see why.

I'm not a baby blue person but I'm gaining an appreciation for cobalt blue.  Aqua is another favorite colour.
I did a small area of dirty water.  lol  Even the dirty water is useful for backgrounds.  But straight craft acrylics are very stiff.  The fabric paints are much softer.

The inks tend to bleed a lot and they are very matt.  Hmm, I wonder if you added some glitzy stuff???

My biggest surprise was how well fabric paint stamped. These are very cheap kid's foam stamps.   I see no value in painting backgrounds when dyeing is softer and easier.  But dyes would probably bleed in making marks so paint is the way to go!  Even the craft acrylics would be useful for stamping, especially if one used a light hand on applying the acrylic and in pressing the stamp.

This seems like a lot of work but really it is helping me become more familiar with the various mediums and how they look and react.  I'd like to think these are warm up exercises before I take the plunge.  Perhaps it could also be stalling but I'm beginning to get the urge to actually try all these options out.  And that will be a good thing!
