Peppermint Stars

This is a smaller version of a large bed quilt I made for my mum who wanted a red and white quilt. Making a two colour quilt in one block pattern is boring but this was what my mum wanted. I did mix it up a bit. It has my version of plaid quilting.

This is also a good example of negative space. It is interesting to listen to how people see the two spaces. Which one is the positive space, which one is the negative?

Love the little star in the corner! And for me the white is negative, red is positive.

This is a great quilt. Gwen Marston has a lovely red and white quilt in one of her books. The obvious answer is the white is the negative space but is it really?

Ooh this is really pretty and I love the little star.

Not sure what you mean about positive and negative spaces - I'm off to google the terms!

What I ever do without the internet, I don't know. But thanks to wikipedia, I now know what negative and positive spaces are! For me, the red is positive and white is negative :)

Thanks for helping me learn something new today - that's always a good thing!

Well, it may have been boring to stitch but it's eye-popping to someone like me, who doesn't even know how to CUT fabric to do that, let alone how to piece and stitch it. I love the "plaid" stitching, works really well.

Mom will be happy, I'm sure. :D

I suppose I did intend for the white to be the negative, but I'm seeing some layers. Maybe the red could be the base fabric, the negative and then you really see the layers. Interesting!
