wow, fabric options

My worktable is covered with lots of stuff.  So is the computer desk.  The spare room has two projects spread over the bed and any available flat surface.  I hope the grand kiddies don't make a surprise visit!  ;^)

April Showers must wait for a rainy day!  I do have the batting cut and some backing picked out.

The mother/daughter memory project has fabrics that remind me of my mum before she succumbed to navy and brown.  How does that happen?   She didn't like purple but I remember lots of maroon and she combined it with dark green.  She also decorated with gold and her 'mother of the bride' dress was gold brocade.  I won't use all but I have a good base for my fabric box and the loose pages.

Then I have a new (vbsigh) project that will use a kit of Bali fabrics.  I'll be making half square triangles.  One half will be the Bali's and the other half is the background.  Which background???  This needs to come from my stash.  I would really like to bump up the modern look and these will be arranged in a non traditional layout as I play and move around all the HST's so...

1) I think this may be too light and I am also thinking I would like a contrasting fabric, not another Bali.

2) But then there is this.  But the HST's are three inches.   ???

3) This one worries me because the pattern is actually directional.  ???

4) I found this oldie but goodie in a designated quilt pile and with somewhat similar fabrics.  I probably have enough for both but do I want two similar quilts considering the brevity of my quilting life time?  ???

5) This is an afterthought and doesn't photograph well.  It is almost tone on tone and the medium large floral with a swirl is a chameleon green.  ???

Here is a chance to vote.  I need to pretty much decide by Friday because that'll be commitment day.  :)

Perhaps the gals on TN&TN will have something to say.  Maybe even something I haven't considered.  6) 7) 8)  I usually post on Wednesdays but I think I'm gonna need some time to tally the votes!

Here's my vote... I clicked on your photos which enlarged them on my screen and I think that the last afterthought is what I would vote for! Definately not that geometric directional one and not the vintage one -- the green with the big flowers might be interesting but you might loose contrast with some of the bali's and a hst would just disappear in the whole... yeah, I like the last one. but of course it is your quilt and your own eyes will tell you what you like best!

I vote for #2! I think it will even MORE creative when you cut the HST in that size, knowing some will have the flower... some won't! And I love the color of that fabric, and it will "glow" with all the bali's in the new kit. I don't care quite as much for the real light tones, if it was my personal choice... but on the other side of the triangle... it will be bright, too, and lovely contrast... and the quilting will also show up more on that light space. Keep in mind any quilting will add color, texture, and depth, depending ont he color of thread you're going to use?! In other words, quilting can have the possibility of adding "busyness" ... I definitely do not care for the geo print, {which in my opinion would overwhelm the balis}, nor the old-fashioned one, it's too dull. That's my HST's cent's worth! xoxo

I love both #2 and #4!

I like the two smaller prints -- 3 and 4 -- but along with being directional, #3 is brighter...so perhaps four would be 'subtle with a punch'?

I like the last one best, then the first one, they would really show off the quilting later too,

I vote for the last one. I think it will show up those gorgeous Bali prints so well !

I vote for #2 or #5! Such pretty batiks!

I vote for the first one then the last one... great project!

I have no vote as I don't quilt but I am loving your Batiks and my eye liked #5...but then 5 is my lucky number. You will know what you like when you cut and begin your project. April Showers is looking wonderful. Creative Stitching Bliss Dear...

I think #5 offers the safe choice, while #2 is bolder and more challenging. Either will work--good luck deciding!

It would be easier, seeing them in person, but my vote goes to 2 and 5. If you want a subtle difference I think cutting #2 into HSTs would provide that. The pattern would be less visible in a 3" HST and it would appear more mottled. On the other hand, if you want a crisp contrast that highlights the batiks, I would go with the last one.

Hmm, I think the first or the last will give greater contrast and help the colours pop more. If that's what you are looking for that is!
