wow, its done!

Well, it may be March 20th and the beginning of spring but somebody forgot to tell those winter winds  which bring cold and snow.  Apparently winter is NOT done!

The snow is as high as the top stringer on the fence. And that clear cold blue is indeed cold!  The Rooster doesn't think he'll be finishing that fence as early in spring as he wants.  :(

Another thing not done is the renovations.  The floor is being sanded.  And apparently this little guy isn't getting it done either so they are going to get a bigger sander. 

There is a spot that needs patching and finding some appropriate old fir floor boards has been a challenge.

I have a new gal who joins us for Creativity 101 so we will be getting into even bigger messes in The Coop and Saucer Playroom!

The butterfly books will take a while before they are done but it is looking like a fun project.

But I do have a long awaited finished goal. The wedding quilt top is DONE! woo hoo!

The top was the goal for this quarter of the finish-a-long.  Next quarter will be the quilting.

My own bed is not queen size but this is as big as I go!

I was just one little patch short so I decided to just make that last corner 'flower' in a different yellow.  :)

So glad this wall has been hurdled!

Now to get my machine quilting skills back up to a good flow!  Next...

And it seems the whole of Canada is ready to be done with winter and I think if we check out The Needle and Thread Network we will find this to be so.  All those in favour of Spring, raise their cursor!  :)

Wow wips

Never mind the work table!  The whole house has become a worktable.

Furniture and accessories had to find new temporary residences! I tried to keep some paths clear!

I went to work on the wedding quilt blocks as the crew began to change the downstairs.  That back wall had been plywood with a very old wallpaper.  Drywall has been put in place.  The other walls are plaster with a sponge paint finish.  It all must be a good 20 years old.  ooh, embarrassing!

Look what a couple of hours produced.  I am really luving it.   This is a thin coating of mud (?) plaster (?) that is troweled sorta smooth.  The process will continue after everything nicely dries. 

The Rooster's eyebrows are up at his feather line.  lol  But the reality is that he wants to know when he gets his favourite chair back!  :)  I can't wait for the first coat of colour!

Meanwhile-

I am in the home stretch as far as the blocks go.  The trick is not confusing myself which is horribly easy as I look sideways, lay down the right, UHM! make that 'correct' piece!  Then transfer everything to the cutting table with the right piece on the left side 'cause I sew from the inside edge to the outside edge.  See what I mean! :O  Then I try not to mix up the pieces as they come back from the sewing machine.  I have part of the last row to piece and the three corners.  I did rip off the border I first did and now I have to rip some more as I need those yellow patches to finish as all my yardage has be cut and used.  It will be nip and tuck but I'm rooting for tuck!

I  had to carefully set everything aside because my gal came for creativity 101.  I try not to listen to Nina quivering under her protective cover as Jenn and I get kinda excited and abandon all caution.!  lol

But we held it down to white gesso and only a small digression for a pink flower on the paint shirt!  :) 

The painters return tomorrow and I shall be back listening to Nina hum as we get this top finished.  I am thinking it is looking all the better for all the snafoos! 

I hesitate to link to The Needle and Thread Network as I am still not finished this top.  :(  But I'm close, very close! 

wow - a whiteout!

No visibility on Monday but it looks like business as usual now although things got a bit blurry with the wedding quilt.  Again!  :(

Last Friday I did a major errand run and as I was not happy with the wedding quilt I decided to try a compatible green and a plain white for the final border.  I washed up the fabric.  I ironed and added some spray starch and began cutting.

I think the white dots on the one green  are distracting. The tone on tone floral is the better choice even if a bit lighter than the ones already in the top.  I was thinking the edges could kinda fade out. I cut someof the white. Oye, so glad I didn't do all of the pieces as they are way too stark to my way of thinking.  I am NOT going back to any more stores to look.  I have done that at least three times previously and  there are no better choices.  :(  Now I've had some yardage of a similar look to the floral but I had just discounted it because it has blue and not aqua.  But I was desperate and ...

I think it can work.

I also replaced the striped pink for the darker solid. I had too much texture with diagonal lines that I had somehow never noticed.  :O  I think when I restarted this old wip I had just kept telling myself it was okay and forging ahead.  But I have learned that it is better to admit I don't like it before I have way more to 'fix' than I am comfortable fixing.  lol

A bit more of the white stuff!

The lady in the pet shop brought a white cockateil out for the grand kiddies to see up close and personal.

Nice, but my dear namesake told me later she'd rather have a snake!  snort!  This was while the grand son was trying to catch the goldfish!  :O   The kiddies luv the outing.  It is just me that becomes the fast moving white blur!  

I am discovering how to use white.  The big brush Pitt artist pen arrived in my local store and I can hardly wait for the new distress paint.  Dylusions has a very cool white spray I want to try as well.

The 'puter is off to the spa tomorrow.  I  will be sleeping on the new fabric choices but I think this will be as good as it is gonna get.

Wow not quite wordless

This is not about what if's...

This is about what will be..., Will be.

My deficiency in math is typically glaring and I am just going to do my best and finish.  That means a bit of preplanning to spread the substitute fabrics around.  But  I need to remember this is a bed quilt so only two sides are always seen together.

I have enough yellow, enough aqua, enough pink.  I have not enough original light floral, nor enough substitute light floral.  The light mauve was used elsewhere in the top and is up for a possible.  The yellow green I bought to make up for the shortage of the original is almost gone.  I should have got double!  :(

It will be what it will be! Hind sight on this quilt top is that I should have used only a few colours and not tried to get cute with light, medium, and dark for all the main colours, especially with the design changing as I progressed and the passage of too much time.  I have definitely learned a good and valuable lesson!

It will be fine!  ;^)

Wow, back to a clean surface

And a fresh start on a finish.

First up on the worktable, as a warm up for the warm up, is Eliana's party dress.

But I did want to start by showing that I did manage to get my cleaning completed from yesterday.  I put new paper down at the mixed media counter, seen on the far right.  The journal table is exposed.  The cutting table ready.  That huge pile threatening to avalanche onto Nina is all part of what is on my worktable and the goal this year is to diminish it.  :)  Yay for the Finish-a-long!

So I mended  the grand kiddie's party dress, which took 5 minutes(!) and actually started her mum's quilt blocks for the final border.

I had to really think about how the pieces are laid out.  The pieces remain the same but the colours change to make flowers.  Yellow flowers are on the edge and the green trumpets scallop around the outside.  Won't that be fun to bind!  I think I am out of my mind but it is a wedding quilt!  lol

This has been such a wall for me to get over and finish. I'm not sure why as I like it.  I can't find the instructions which I don't really need but it would be good to refresh my memory as to what side up and which parts to sew to which parts.  I already made a mistake but I think I am beginning to see the colour flow again.  It is starting to all come back.  whew!

So it may not look like much but I am starting and I shall keep this up until I have it all pieced.  God willing and the creek don't rise which is slim given the freezing cold we are experiencing!
