Aqua Time

Butter yellow and old aqua vie for my favourite colour.   As I work with them in my house decor I realize that there are nuances to colour and I am continually having to define my likes.  Well, what makes me happy!  Clear and bright make my smile move up a notch  but those chalky colours just make me settle down and sigh deeply.  I would not put the brown glaze over my yellow walls if I had to do it over again.  But anything verdigris  I gravitate to.

The sitting room

So in the spirit of KISS, I am gathering all a lot of the aqua glass and turquoise accessories in one place.   The large print with the nature scene that the Rooster received when he left work suggested  the idea.

 I'm sure as I find more 'stuff', and I will,  I cab indulge in another favourite pastime- tweaking!  ;^

The sitting room, which is the old dining room with the new sliding door,  is most connected to nature.  We luv sitting here to relax.  In my mind this has always needed to somewhat neutral.   I have a few ideas for lap quilts but this room makes me happy.

One more tweak and it still doesn't seem quite right.  :{  Hmm maybe a glass plate behind the birdie!  I have a few somewhere...

But time to tackle the next room on the  'make me happy' list!

Friday Furniture Finish

I got my reupholstered chairs and foot stool back. I am thrilled with the wonderful job.

The foot stool will be in the sitting room with the two neutral chairs.  One reclines for a tired rooster and the other is for this chick to nest in.  I was always sorry I never got the matching foot stool. Now I'm not sorry at all.

The two recovered chairs will be in the front dining room.  They can be drawn up to the table or they can be available for serious thinking as they are not quite as comfortable as the over stuffed chairs.

As each choice is made it fine tunes the over all design plan.  The new chairs are best on either side of the stove and my original ideal for glass fronted cabinets that keep the dust out  may be too deep. I may have to revert to bookcases. WAIT, they could be shallow glass fronted cabinets that are the same depth as the bookcases.  Blogging my thoughts is the very best thing!  :)    The door in the sitting room leads to the bathroom and kinda needs to be there but needs upgrading.  I'm seriously thinking of putting  a door with glass panes in it, probably white.  They would then relate to the sliding doors with wooden inserts that are behind the curtain.  In summer I switch my chair with a gate leg table for easier access to that door.

I am really trying to stay focused on finishing the bathroom and then into these two rooms for painting and finishing.

Comfort Zone

Each time  I rearrange my house I get closer to the ideal.  Last night I was so happy I actually sat down and looked around.  I even brought the stack of books I'm reviewing for 2012 and stacked them for browsing.

I couldn't keep my eyes from looking around. Ambiance!  Even though it was only 5:30 it was dark but I took pictures anyway.

The colours are beginning to jell.  The 2 large decorator florals are just pinned as I consider drapes.  I'm thinking of a wooden valence over the top of this sliding door. The fabric has a dusky red that I once considered for the dining room but now I'm thinking sitting room which has a smaller wall area but should be cozy. I'm also sure the large mirror will stay in this room.   The fabric has a green with some blue in which would be a good colour to recover the aqua chairs.  The walls in the dining room would be pulled from the golden beiges in the fabric.  That front window is a puzzle.  Maybe a valence from the bit of floral fabric that would be left over or maybe I should use it for the foot stool.

But I'm definitely liking the comfort factor.

The quick peek I had at my first book is stretching my comfort zone though.  I thought 12 books for 2012 had a nice ring to it.  But Threads- the Basics and Beyond,  is extensive.  Even if I started tonight  (2nd floor decorating today) and did Nina's manual at the same time, it would take at least 2-3 months.  I'm probably being unrealistically optimistic, too.

More thinking while I pick up pins in the playroom.

As snug as a bug

Perspective and accurate colour are not always possible on the blog site, but I am very happy with this rug. The room is square and the light not centered. There is a bathroom door right behind the camera. The circular shape is perfect for door swings, traffic paths, and shape.

The front room rug has always been too small but it worked. There is an 8 x 12 rug also available in the same pattern as the round. I can have it in the same colours with a cranberry added. I think it'll work! I just need to collect a whole lot more eggs before the sale ends. Here chickie, chickie!
